Understanding Staff Roles and Workspaces

Learn what each role in MesaFlow can see and do across Owner, Manager, Waiter, and Kitchen surfaces.

Who can do thisAll staff, managers, and owners.

Steps

  1. Owner (Console: /owner)

Owners have organization-wide authority across all locations.

Capabilities: Switch locations, view high-level revenue and order analytics, view floor heat maps, invite and remove staff, reset passwords, customize RBAC permission overrides, and configure system service settings.

  2. Manager and Administrator (Dashboard: /dashboard)

Managers run day-to-day restaurant operations for a specific location.

Capabilities: Create and edit menu sections, products, prices, and combos; mark items out-of-stock (86ing); configure section prep times; manage tables and floor schemes; manage table NFC cards and QR codes; view activity logs; switch between Waiter and Kitchen board views.

  3. Waiter and Bartender (Floor: /waiter)

Waiters manage the dining room floor and table orders during service.

Capabilities: View incoming orders in real time; track order age (New, Cooling, Critical); accept and serve orders; edit items before kitchen confirmation; receive customer calls and bill requests; view reservations; place orders on behalf of tables.

  4. Chef and Cook (Pass: /kitchen)

Kitchen personnel focus entirely on order preparation and cooking queues.

Capabilities: View active orders ordered by fire time; see ingredient modifications and exclusions highlighted; advance orders to "Preparing" and "Ready"; toggle stock availability for ingredients or dishes if stock permissions are granted.
